Attendance Expectations
Members are expected to attend the four seasonal observances (equinoxes and solstices) unless prevented by circumstances beyond their control. Absences should be communicated to the district Steward at least 72 hours in advance when possible.
Consistent non-attendance without explanation may result in a status review by the Council. The Lineage values commitment and presence. Those who cannot maintain active participation should discuss their situation with their Steward to explore appropriate accommodations.
Neophytes in their first year are required to attend all scheduled observances as part of their orientation period. Exceptions require Council approval.
San Bruno Mountain Observances
The Summer Solstice gathering at San Bruno Mountain is the most significant event in the Lineage calendar. Members gather at the designated summit location before dawn to observe the sunrise along the meridian axis.
Access to the summit location requires prior coordination. Members will receive detailed instructions, including trailhead meeting point and timing, approximately one week before the event. The hike to the observation point takes approximately 25 minutes at a moderate pace.
Note: The mountain observance proceeds regardless of weather conditions. Fog is common; members should dress appropriately and bring layers. The observance has been held continuously since 1952, interrupted only once (1989, seismic event).
